Happy Valentine's Day

Nothing like residents at the retirement home to make you feel special on Valentine's day.

Toni (93 years old): Are you going to a restaurant tonight?

Shaun: No. I'm just going to eat here in the dining room.

Toni: That's boring. You need to eat out.

Shaun: On Valentine's day? Are you kidding?

Toni: You should have made reservations. This is why you need a girlfriend Shaun. So that you'll make reservations a month in advance. I don't know why you don't have a girlfriend. You're handsome enough.

Shaun: Didn't you tell me that you were legally blind?

Toni: I can still see well enough. If I were younger I'd go out with you to a nice restaurant tonight. But I don't think I'd hold your interest now, but I might make you laugh. You should find a girlfriend and take her out.

Shaun: Well, thanks for taking an active interest in my love life.

Toni: Interest in nothing. You don't have a love life. You have nothing to talk about. Get a girlfriend and then we'll talk...and take her to a nice restaurant!

HAHAHAHA!!! Best one yet!! Shaun, I'm afraid Toni is right, you are handsome enough and I know plenty of ladies that would have been thrilled to go out with you on Valentine's Day!

Having been out with you an Valentine's Day (five years ago - I can you believe it?), I second the motion that you get a girlfriend and take her out on Valentine's (even if it is already past).

Wow! It's nice to see you all take such an active interest in my love life. Maybe y'all could form a club with Toni.

And yes, frau magister, I do remember that date. As I recall, I gave you a valentine cactus. That's me. Ever the romantic.

a cactus? what kind of valentine's gift is that?

I'm sure the cactus has a story. Unfortunately I don't remember what it is. There had to be a reason why I would do that. I do know that I decorated the pot with construction paper hearts.

So, hypothetically, if there ever is a girlfriend, are you going to blog about her?

well hypothetically speaking if I were dating someone, I suppose she might show up in a post or comment in a blog. I probably wouldn't come out and say "Here's who I'm dating" It would probably be more subtle like her name coming up in reference to something we did together. Like, "Lindsay and I went to a great Guatemalan restaurant tonight." Something like that...hypothetically speaking of course.

The cactus was a fabulous Valentines gift. I had it until a year ago when after I returned from Berlin it was not where I left it. I'm not sure what my in-laws did with it, since it was in their care I left it (and the rest of our possessions). The pot was decorated with construction paper hearts and as I remember one of them said "I'm stuck on you". I think you gave me a cactus because I'm from Arizona, but I can't really remember why a cactus specifically.
I'm looking forward to reading subtle hints about love life.

Yeah, leave it to Shaun to be hypothetically subtle about his hypothetic love life. Hypothetically speaking, if you were dating someone, you should subtly post pictures. Of romantic dessert trips to Sweet Lady Jane's.

I think you should post on your dating experiencies.

maybe a new "date of the month" feature on your blog would be good, where you talk about something fun you do and just mention who with. I've been out of LA for a year but can provide some names if you want to know who you could ask out...
