Moving out
I have so much to update here. Instead of trying to tell the whole story, I'll just skip to the end. I'm moving out of the retirement home tomorrow. I will continue as the director of resident services, but it will be as a full-time employee and not as a student intern/part time employee. I feel like this should be more poignant--an end of an era that I can never return to. I probably won't live in a retirement home ever again...or at least for another 37 years. If I do end up in a retirement home again, I'm sure my experiences here will make it much easier for me to adapt to my new surroundings. It will be convenient when dementia sets in, and I begin to believe I am living out earlier stages of my life. "Come by my office and we can discuss your Medicare options, " I will say to my neighbor. "Are you going to come to my discussion on fall prevention?" "Don't mind Mr. Rushforth," they will say. "He thinks he works here."
I will continue to see my residents Monday through Friday. I'll continue to eat lunch with them. I will no longer help them back to their rooms at night or sit and chat with them in the lobby after coming home from a date. On the other hand, it will be nice to have a separate place that is not work. A place where when I take a day off, it is also a day away.

Congratulations, Shaun! I hope that this will prove to be a positive move for you. Good luck!
How do the residents feel about this? Will they miss you at night?
Good luck in your new "own" apartment. The good thing is that you will not have to do cleaning checks every month. :)
Viel Glück im neuen Heim.
Wow!! What a big change! I bet the residents are going to miss those late night chats (as are you, I'm sure, even just a little bit). I would love to hear the lead up to this big event...or at least what's happening next! Where are you moving? What's the plan?
hahaha... "don't mind Mr. Rushforth, he thinks he works here." I won't be surprised if you're right. Yay for new apartments!
I think is a good move Shaun. All the best!!!
