The new oldies
As part of my official duties as a student intern I was left in charge of introducing tonight's entertainment. They were two singers who used to perform in New York in shows such as My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, and West Side Story. Now they tour the country performing at retirement homes singing songs from musicals from the 1910s to the present. One looks like he could be straight out of the Lawrence Welk Show and the other looks like a Regis Philbin type. They were a big hit and the residents got excited as the singers announced each number.
Performer: "Let's go back to the 1930s. You might remember this one Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"
Residents: "OOOOH!!!"
It made me think. What music will they be singing when I'm living in a retirement home?...I mean when I'm actually retired. So I open the question to you guys. What songs will bring back fond memories for you and what music do you want included in sing along hour when you're old?

The songs of the 80ties are always great, but actually - I really like the songs "Downtown" from Petulia Clark and then "Dancing Queen" from ABBA, and maybe from the Bangles, "YMCA" from the Village People, and definitely Oldies - "Smoke gets in your eyes" and the right partner. :)
Bon Jovi, Beastie Boys, and Warrant hopefully.
One song: Baby Got Back.
And you love me.
Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit...I can see it now.
The Cranberries "Dreams" and Martina McBride's "This One's For the Girls." But at that point I'll probably like anything I can recognize.
George Strait, Brad Paisley, and some other country favorites.
Anything would be fine, as long "Achy Breaky Heart" isn't part of the repetoire. I would hope for some classic Blink 182. Honestly, where would we all be today without cheap punk rock? "Sweater" by Weezer would get me all riled up too.
