Frantically trying not to graduate

Most people work really hard in order to graduate. Right now I'm working hard to make sure I don't graduate next month. I am applying to a dual degree program for a double masters in health administration and gerontology. I have completed all the requirements for the gero degree and if admitted into the MHA program would only need 36 more units to complete that degree as well. Today during a meeting with the admissions director I was informed that if my gerontology degree posts and I graduate next month before they are able to admit me, I would no longer qualify as a dual degree student. Consequently, I would have to take 12 more units of coursework. That would translate into an extra year and thousands of dollars of money, neither of which I have.

I emailed my advisor who informed me that the only way not to graduate was to somehow not complete the requirements. So now I'm calling all the offices trying to expedite my MHA application as well as delay the completion of my current degree. At the same time I'm trying to finish up all my courses for the semester. These are the same courses that complete the requirements for graduation. Who knew not graduating could be so difficult?

Update: I had considered extending my internship into the summer so that it would appear as "In Progress" on my transcript. I called Degree Progress this morning. They told me all I needed to do was send them an email postponing my graduation. Turns out not graduating is not that difficult after all.

Could you convince a prof to give you an incomplete in a class so you can't graduate?

You could always "throw" an exam. I'm suddenly realising that graduating my program = way more responsibility than I realized. If only I could delay....

yeah, I think you should shoot for the incomplete. Or get mono. That worked for me!

too bad you don't have to write a thesis... that can easily delay graduation, if necessary

All I can do is shake my head in disbelief after the migraines I've had just trying to graduate!
